Pushkarini

Pushkarini
Preeti Pushkarini is the Devi’s name meaning ‘the one with pleasant eyes.’
Pushkarini is also a lake adjacent to Sri Venkateswara temple in the southern state of Andhra Paradesh. Some pilgrims bathe in it before entering the main temple. Pushkarini was originally in Vaikunth, the abode of Sri Maha Vishnu. It is said that it was set on Earth by Garuda for the sport of Sri Venkateswara and his consort Sri Lakshmi.
An array of aquatic flowers interspersed with delicate beadwork on deep colours of Navy and Brown create a magical and mystical feel of the divine lake. The bright embroideries are off-set with fine beadwork and miniature ‘torans’ – auspicious hangings with fine birds and tassels. The mood is happy and grand.
Traditionally, a deep blue colour was worn on Diwali night. An attempt has been made to revive the same in this collection.
